‘Twist of Faith’ garners 3 Leo Award Nominations

The Lifetime Network movie ‘Twist of Faith’ starring Toni Braxton has been nominated for three Leo Awards. The nominations are in the following categories:

1. Best Television Movie

2. Best Director – Paul Kaufman

3. Best Cinematography – Kamal Derkaoui

‘Dirty Girl’ now on Netflix Streaming

‘Dirty Girl‘ directed by Abe Sylvia and starring Juno Temple, Milla Jovovich and William H. Macy is now available on Netflix Streaming and Netflix DVD. ’Dirty Girl‘ features dramatic underscore composed by Jeff Toyne and a soundtrack packed with 80′s hits, including “Rainbird” : a new song written for the film by Melissa Manchester and Mary Steenburgen, with a string arrangement by Jeff Toyne.

When promiscuous teen Danielle is sentenced to special ed for making sexually charged comments in class, she befriends gay, overweight Clarke, who agrees to join her on a search to find her father — in part so he can get away from his own.

SCGC Recording Session in Vancouver

Jeff Toyne recently conducted his music at a recording session at The Warehouse Studio in Vancouver, BC Canada. The demo session was part of professional development by the Screen Composers Guild of Canada. The session was performed by members of the Vancouver Film Orchestra.

Jeff Toyne speaks with Film School Rejects

On March 29th Jeff Toyne was interviewed by Allison Loring at Film School Rejects about scoring for the new DirecTV series, ‘Rogue’.

“The first time you see Grace, the opening scene of the series, she is alone on the docks waiting for a drug deal to go down. There is no dialogue for a moment, just the sound of the docks; Thandie introduces her character through her facial expression and the look in her eyes. As a composer it was a great moment to be a part of, I was excited to be able to help set the stage for the entire drama about to unfold,” Toyne comments.

Jeff Toyne To Score DirecTV’s ‘Rogue’

On April 3^rd, DirecTV will debut its original series, Rogue, with music composed by Jeff Toyne. This marks Toyne’s American television debut.

Rogue centers on a morally and emotionally conflicted cop, Grace (Thandie Newton), who is tormented by the possibility that her own actions contributed to her son’s death. Grace’s search for the truth is further complicated by her forbidden relationship with the crime boss who may have played a role in the crime.

Toyne comments, “It’s been an absolute thrill to work on this production! The taut storyline, the great look, and the fine performances have all inspired my music. I’m lucky to be a part of such a wonderful collaborative team.”

The score soundtrack to Rogue is scheduled to release sometime after the season finale, release date to be determined.

DirecTV famously revived series such as Friday Night Lights and Damages, giving them additional seasons. Rogue is their first attempt at creating their own scripted content.

‘Magic Beyond Words’ Wins Best TV Movie at the Canadian Screen Awards

Just Released – Soundtrack to ’10 Years Later’

The score album soundtrack to ’10 Years Later,’ composed by Jeff Toyne, is now available on iTunes. Directed by Aaron Metchik, and starring an ensemble cast that includes Rachel Boston (’500 Days of Summer’), Jake Hoffman (‘Barney’s Version’), Kathleen Rose Perkins (‘Episodes’) and James DeBello (‘Cabin Fever’) , ’10 Years Later’ is a dark comedy about six childhood friends returning home for their ten year high school reunion. When one of them kidnaps an enemy from their past and inadvertently gets the others involved, each much decide whether to turn in a best friend or become accomplices in a dark plot that none of them are sure they can pull off.

‘Twist of Faith’ to premiere on Lifetime, Saturday Feb 9

This Saturday on Lifetime, ‘Twist of Faith’ will premiere starring Toni Braxton, Mykelti Williamson and David Julian Hirsh and directed by Paul A. Kaufman.

Jacob Fisher (David Julian Hirsh), an Orthodox Jewish Cantor and amateur songwriter who resides in Brooklyn, New York, witnesses the senseless murder of his wife and three children. Catatonic, Jacob walks out on his Jewish mourning ritual, leaving behind his Jewish garments, wallet and keys. Abandoning his identity, he wanders aimlessly, hoping somehow to understand his tragedy. Fortuitously, he lands in Brent, Alabama (population 2,500), where he is embraced by Nina (Toni Braxton), a single mother and the lead singer of a small gospel choir (an unlikely finalist in the competition to determine the best gospel choir in Alabama), her Uncle Moe (Mykelti Williamson) and their gospel community who help his return to life while music brings Nina and Jacob together as they try to make sense of his past and their possible future.

‘Abel’s Field’ now available on DVD

The feature film ‘Abel’s Field,’ directed by Gordie Haakstad, produced by Tore Knos and starring Kevin Sorbo, is now available on DVD.

Left motherless by tragedy and fatherless by abandonment, high school senior Seth McArdle (Samuel Davis) is under enormous pressure to support his young twin sisters. At home, he has no one to turn to. At work, he struggles to earn enough money to make ends meet. And at school, he endures the daily bullying from members of the football team.

When Seth fights back, he’s singled out by the football coach and assigned to an after-school work detail. Laboring alongside reserved groundskeeper Abel (Kevin Sorbo) to get the football field ready for the big game, Seth is surprised to discover that Abel understands his struggles … and his dreams. Abel encourages Seth to ask out popular Katie and even steps in to babysit so Seth can go out on the date. Yet as dark circumstances lure Seth toward a desperate decision, a reluctant Abel could be the one person who points him back toward the light.

The soundtrack to Abel’s Field, is now available on iTunes. The indie feature directed by Gordie Haakstad and produced by Tore Knos, is a heart-warming tale of a young man attempting to overcome a terrible situation at home to help his young sisters avoid the challenges facing him. Starring Kevin Sorbo (Soul Surfer, Hercules) and Samuel Davis, Abel’s Field is a powerful reminder of the positive influence we can have on others.

Available on DVD beginning January 22, 2013, Abel’s Field includes a 20-minute featurette entitled “From the Sidelines: The Making of Abel’s Field.”
